Field draws RCMP interest

The Vancouver Sun

Friday, June 28, 2002

Police dug up a field near a house in the 18700 block of Highway 10 in Surrey Thursday night, said Constable Tim Shields of the Surrey RCMP.

"This is an acreage property with a residence on it," he said. "The search warrant does not include the building."

Shields said police were working under large tents.

Details of what the police are searching for, however, have not been released. "At this time, we are not releasing what it is we are searching for, or what this is in connection to," Shields said.

However, Shields said the dig at the site near the boundary between Surrey and Langley has nothing to do with the ongoing investigation of a Coquitlam pig farm.

A joint Vancouver police and RCMP task force is currently searching the Coquitlam farm for evidence in relation to the disappearance of 54 women from the Downtown Eastside. Seven charges of murder have been laid against farm owner Robert (Willy) Pickton in that case.
